Cucumber is an ingredient of many creams and lotions because of its astringent, cooling and moistening properties. Their flesh is primarily composed of water, but also contains vitamins A, C, E and caffeic acid, all of which help to soothe skin irritations and to reduce swelling. This is why placing cucumber slices over the eyes helps to reduce swollen eyes. The outer skin contains beneficial minerals including magnesium, potassium and silica. Silica is an essential component of healthy connective tissue which is important to maintain clear and radiant skin.

As a matter of fact our face’s skin is the most sensitive organ of our whole body and any disorder of skin irritates the whole body both mentally and physically. There are many diseases of skin and they can easily be cured but the persistent condition of skin is Rosacea. This skin ail is quite troublesome and the most difficult part regarding this disease is its identification in initial stages. It means when the germs of Rosacea attacks the skin it becomes red along with pimples and most of the people neglect it by considering it some acne. In fact, many skin specialists compare both Rosacea and Acne but it is just a big misunderstanding.

In short you can say that this disease can be healed with home made remedies like using nutrients, vitamins, herbal oils and bring a change in the daily routine life. If you are unable to make a proper cure for Rosacea than it is suggested to consult any skin specialist instead doing experiments with your skin. Remember; do not make a mistake of neglecting this skin disease because in initial stages of Rosacea the germs of this disease can be controlled but if you neglect it, this can be very dangerous for you and your skin. So, once you have diagnosed this persistent ailment do not waste a single moment and visit your family doctor.

Symptoms

1. If you’re having your skin go red any time without a reason than surely this is the 1st major reason for rosacea. This may appear as a permanent blush on your face. This may become permanent for days or may disappear and again appear. This is the most common and well known symptom of rosacea.

2. The most common symptom of rosacea is it will cause permanent blush or redness on your skin. If, it is rosacea and not just normal acne than this is the major difference between them to recognize. This would look like just a sunburn skin.

3. If you’re also experiencing pimples or bumps on your face with red skin than you are suffering from rosace for sure. These pimples or bumps may be small or stiff or they can also appear as those pus-filled pimples. This is also a common symptom of rosacea.

4. One of the most common symptoms of all is that rosacea brings red lines to appear on your face. These red lines appear on your skin due to quick flow of blood through blood vessels. Those red lines appearing on your skin are actually your blood vessels appearing on your skin.

You might be thinking about the symptoms of this disease and how it attacks an individual. Well, a virus starts reproducing in human body and it destroys the most crucial amino acids of the human body. In this way the immune system of human body becomes weaker and the disease totally overcomes the whole body by leaving its signs on the face. The age of victims of this persistent ailment lies between 30 - 60 years old people; so, you can say that the virus usually attacks adults. There are many symptoms of this disease like itching on skin, burning and irritation. After Rosacea is being diagnosed, it is highly recommended to take precautionary measures and apply cures for this skin disease.

Treatments

In case of swelling and reddening of face Clonidine is used as the proper treatment but as mentioned earlier there are several side-effects of this antibiotic. After using these pills for long time duration a patient may face lowering of blood pressure or drowsiness which is quite dangerous for health and personal hygiene. So, to avoid such bad effects Monoxidine is used as an alternate but this antibiotic is not very efficient. Yet, the suitable cure of Rosacea has not been invented but if a patient identify the cause of Rosacea Triggering factors this can be the best treatment to avoid such factors.

The most common version of adult acne is called acne rosacea - technically not acne at all because the hair follicle is not the source of the problem. In rosacea, the tiny blood vessels of the face become enlarged and the tissue surrounding them becomes inflamed. In the early stages this may appear as red streaks, or a simple blush that doesn’t fade away.

As rosacea progresses, so does the red, ruddy look, sometimes accompanied by a mild form of conjunctivitis, or inflammation of the eye. Those symptoms are often assumed by others to be signs of an alcoholic. In fact, alcohol can make rosacea worse, but the symptoms may be just as severe in a non-drinker.

Some persons maybe prescribed oral antibiotics, which include tetracycline, Doxycycline and Minocycline. Topical antibiotics such as Metronidazole, maybe approved to relieve swelling and partial redness. Oral antibiotics may provide relief from Ocular Rosacea. If symptoms continue, at times Isotretinoin is prescribed. Unfortunately, the antibiotic treatments can cause undesirable side effects, especially when used long-term.

Flushing and swelling of the face can be treated with Clonidine. Its side effects include sleepiness and lowering of blood pressure. Monoxidine, a popular alternative, is less efficient. Determining the cause of flushing is vital. For example, if reddening occurs from consumption of red wines or other foodstuff that contains high amounts of histamine, prescribing antihistamines such as Zyrtec or Claritin could be helpful.

Hot Flash,Symptoms & Types

2009 December 31
Posted by harryjackson9

Since menopause is a natural occurrence, it is not a type of illness at all. The decrease in female hormones such as estrogen and progesterone causes these uncomfortable changes. Also, during this time, fewer potential eggs are ripening in your ovaries each month, so ovulation is much less predictable. Your menstrual periods may become longer or shorter, heavier or lighter, and more or less frequent. Eventually your ovaries stop producing eggs, and you will stop having periods. It’s possible, but very unusual, to have periods every month leading right up to your last period. More likely, you’ll experience some irregularity in your periods. And of course it’s the unpredictability that drives most women crazy.

When the hot flashes are mild, simple modifications to behavior patterns help manage the problem. Avoiding spicy food, alcohol, caffeine, smoking, diet pills and hot environments can eliminate or reduce the intensity of hot flashes. Exercise, as advised by a physician, helps a lot. A moderate attack of flashes needs more attention. Besides lifestyle modifications, herbal remedies, acupuncture and mild over-the-counter medication assists in preventing severe hot flashes. Any medication taken by a pregnant woman must be with the approval of the physician.

We know from studying women that the internal core temperature does increase. You can a put a sensor on the skin and before a woman has the experience she will be able to tell you, “I am going to have a hot flash.” And sure enough, there will be an increase in internal core temperature followed by profuse sweating which is very uncomfortable. As you know, the purpose of sweating is to cool the body so there is often a reflex of sort of chill that follows.

It is a very uncomfortable and distracting sensation. It can occur at any time of the day. It can occur with tremendous variability, it can happen many times an hour or only just once or twice a day. Some women have one or two a day, and get through menopause with no problems while other women have fifteen or twenty a day. We are all different.

Symptoms

A hot flash is a sudden, intense version of what the body normally does to cool down when it is overheated: Blood vessels near the skin dilate and you break into a sweat. But why, when a woman is sitting at her desk or driving down Main Street, does her body suddenly think it is overheated? The causes of such thermal chaos are only partly understood. Hot flashes are linked to the fluctuating hormones that cause so many perimenopause symptoms, but other factors can cause your temperature control to go out of whack.

The immediate cause of the problem is the dilation of blood vessels on the upper part of the body, particularly the neck and face. The root cause of the problem, what causes this enlarging of blood vessels, is still unclear. Large fluctuations of female hormones seem to be the prime cause. Hot spicy food, caffeine, hot weather, alcohol and stress act as triggers to start hot flashes.

The attack can end in a few seconds or last as long as an hour, and there is a wide variation in the severity of the attack. Some can sense the attack, while for others it is very sudden. The first and most common symptom is the feeling of heat on the upper body, particularly the neck and the face. At the same time, the body core temperature drops as much as three degrees. The face flushes, that is it turns, red.

As stated above, hot flashes and night sweats are all natural occurrences for women in their mid-40s, late 50s, and in some rare cases, age 35. They will begin along with other menopausal symptoms such as mood swings, vaginal dryness, irregular hair growth, fatigue, depression, memory loss, water retention, and weight gain. The main reasons for most of these symptoms are the imbalances of the hormones in the woman. Nothing is worse than sweating in your sleep while barely getting any and waking up into a mood swing, while trying to fix breakfast. This can be very problematic, but luckily there’s hope.

Types

Therefore, it is usually recommended that when one decides to undertake this form of treatment, she should consume the lowest dose possible that helps to alleviate her symptoms. Another type of treatment used to treat hot flashes is the use of selective estrogen receptor modulators commonly known as SERMs. SERMs are a category of medicines that act selectively as either agonists or antagonists on the estrogen receptors throughout the whole body thus helping out with the relief of hot flash symptoms. Most of these modulators are usually obtained from natural sources and have therefore been scientifically proven to be relatively safer than other types of hot flash treatments.

Dong quai

Dong quai is an herb that has been noted to be very potent for menopausal problems such as the regulation of hot flashes, and has been reported to aid in relieving mental and emotional distress or depression.

Motherwort

This herb has been analyzed to effectively lessen the severity, frequency and duration of hot flashes, ease stressed nerves, relieve anxiety, and relieve insomnia.

Black cohosh

This herb was frequently utilized by the American Indians, and later by American colonists for relieving menstrual cramps and menopause. More recent scientific analysis and research has upheld the effectiveness of this herb in effectively treating dysmenorrhea and menopause.

Haste Berry

Hast berry is a herb that has been noted to affect the body’s pituitary function and has many uses, especially in regulating hot flashes and dizziness. The herb’s positive effects in menopause could be due to its role in altering the secretion of LH and FSH.

Meningitis,Symptoms and Treatments

2009 December 26
Posted by harryjackson9

Meningitis is an inflammation of the tissue surrounding the brain. While some types of meningitis cause just mild, flu like symptoms, others are serious enough to cause death within several hours. Some children, although not becoming ill, may carry the virus causing meningitis; contagious to others through respiratory secretions. The most common types of the disease are viral and bacterial, with different strains of each resulting from multiple causes. Since each type can begin with the same symptoms, it is important to seek medical help as soon as possible for an accurate diagnosis.

Teenagers are dying from Meningitis (Meningococcal disease) even though it is a rare disease. If one teenager dies it is one to many. But it is not one teenager that is getting the disease or dying.  It may be hard to believe since we really don’t hear about this disease much but  over 3000 teenagers or young adults will get this illness each year and of them three hundred will have their lives cut short.  They will somehow, somewhere pick up this little bacteria and get meningitis and sometimes within 48 hours of contracting this terrible disease they will die.

Meningitis is a common name for infections that take place in the membranes (called meninges) surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Meningitis can be caused by bacteria or virus. One of the most serious forms of meningitis is caused by bacteria known as meningococci.

Meningitis can be very serious; as a matter of fact certain types of bacterial meningitis can be rapidly fatal without early treatment. It is one of the conditions considered to be a medical emergency that is related to infectious diseases.Just a little basic anatomy before I continue. The brain and spinal cord have two protective coverings; the outer bone part consisting of the skull and spinal cord, and the inner three layers of membranes called the meninges.

Between and around the meninges are spaces, most importantly for our discussion is the subarachnoid space. The subarachnoid space is where cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) is found.Viral and bacterial meningitis are the most common forms of this disease. There are many symptoms that might accompany the disease, one of which is meningitis rash. The rash takes different forms with each, although there are similarities as well. It may appear as just a few spots on some people, cover the majority of the body in other people, while no rash at all may be experienced by others.

Symptoms

Earlier this year, 2 Ohio University students learned something that was definitely not on their college curriculum. Both of them contracted bacterial meningitis, a potentially deadly infection that can kill a strong man in just a few hours. Fortunately, these students recovered. One of them had received the meningitis vaccine, which proves that no travel vaccine is infallible. Many U.S. states require this vaccination for entering college students, although Ohio has no such requirement. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises vaccination for children between 11-18 years of age and for college students who reside in dormitories.

Meningitis is a condition in which the fluid of the spine or that surrounds the brain becomes infected. This condition is caused by either a virus, or bacteria, with the first being relatively mild in most cases, needing no specific treatment, and the latter is usually much more serious. Advanced bacterial meningitis can result in brain damage, coma or even death. Even after recovery, a patient can have long-term complications such as mental retardation, paralysis, seizures, or hearing loss.

This disease most associated with babies present these symptoms; Refusal to feed, vomiting, fever, moaning cry, Pale skin, rapid breathing and so on. Severe headache, fever, aversion to bright light is more symptoms presented in some adults and in severe cases unconsciousness.Blood poisoning accompanies meningitis. It comes with a rash (reddish) which later changes to blotchy purplish red, cold hands and feet. Muscle ache and stomach pains are some more.

Meningitis is an acute disease therefore any signs of this should be reported to the emergency department of a health care facility nearest to you as this disease takes few hours to become serious illness to sometimes coma. Please note that rashes are late signs therefore do not wait for the signs of rash if other symptoms are identified and you are convinced before seeking medical attention.

Treatments

Dura mater, a parchment-like membrane, lies on the outermost part of the meninges and adheres to the skull and spinal canal. The cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) is the fluid that circulates in the spaces in and around the brain and spinal cord. In the past, most meningitis cases occurred in children younger than 5 years. But as a result of the protection offered by current childhood vaccines, most meningitis cases now occur in young people between the ages of 15 and 24. Older also tend to have a higher incidence of meningitis than do young children.

Bacterial meningitis is less common than viral meningitis but is usually much more serious and can be life-threatening if not treated promptly. Many different types of bacteria can cause meningitis: Group B Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, and Listeria monocytogenes are the most common causes of meningitis in newborns. It’s also possible to get viral meningitis as a complication of chickenpox, but this is also very rare in healthy kids.

Meningitis is a deadly disease. It spreads after prolonged or close contact with an infected individual, not from casual encounters. Treatment is often delayed as the symptoms of meningitis - fever, headache, nausea and vomiting - are mistaken for a simple viral infection. Two symptoms that are typical of meningitis are a stiff neck and avoidance of bright lights, although meningitis patients may not have these symptoms. Prompt suspicion of the disease and early treatment can be literally lifesaving. I remember as a medical student being shown a photograph of the characteristic ‘meningitis rash’ and told never to forget it. I never did.

Meningitis often begins like the flu does. The major meningitis symptoms include a severe headache that will not go away, stiffness in the neck, stiffness in the upper back, pain in one or both eyes, or an aversion to light, nausea, or the feeling of an upset stomach, vomiting, achy body, fever, sleepy feeling, or the feeling that you just cannot wake up completely, confusion, or a feeling of just not being with it.Viral meningitis is the most common form. Usually viruses that enter your body through your mouth before going to your brain and multiplying cause it. You can find these viruses in the mucus, saliva and feces. Other viruses that may cause meningitis include: Chickenpox , Flu, Mumps, HIV ,Genital herpes.

Laryngitis,Symptoms and Treatments

2009 December 26
Posted by harryjackson9

Laryngitis, the swelling of the vocal cords, has many causes: infection in the vocal tract, injury to the voice box, singing badly, screaming, or you may find yourself with a hoarse voice after a cold. And there are other, more rare and very serious reasons for long bouts of laryngitis - cancer is one of them.

But often I find that singers are their own worst enemies when it comes to the more common reasons for and recovery from laryngitis. Most of us know that eating and drinking alcohol late at night can create acid reflux (stomach acid moves up into the throat and irritates the vocal cords). The numerous ads on TV have drilled that information into our brains.

Unfortunately this was not the case and after around ten days my voice was still extremely hoarse. I had finished the course of penicillin, I had taken paracetamol and had been drinking plenty of fluids as the doctor had advised yet I was still unable to talk in my normal natural way. I did not want to panic, I did not want to over react but there was this nagging thought at the back of my mind that maybe something was seriously wrong with me - throat cancer perhaps. Now you may think that this was some what crazy but I am merely telling the truth - this was the way that my mind was starting to think.

Many people suffering from laryngitis also experience dry, scratchy throats. To moisten your throat, some of the classic remedies include chewing gum, gargling with salt water and sucking on lozenges. Zinc lozenges, in particular, are helpful, but do not exceed 100 milligrams per day. One popular natural remedy for laryngitis, which also soothes the throat, is honey and lemon. Mix equal amounts of honey and lemon juice, plus a pinch of cayenne pepper. Suck on about a tablespoon of this mixture several times a day, or as often as you deem necessary.

Symptoms

Laryngitis is when the larynx becomes inflamed. The voice becomes hoarse and there can possibly be a complete loss of voice because the vocal cords become irritated by the inflammation. Laryngitis can be acute; lasting less than three days or it can be chronic; lasting for more than three weeks.

There are a handful of symptoms for laryngitis:
• Having a dry, sore throat.
• Difficulty swallowing liquids or food.
• Constantly coughing; this ironically can cause laryngitis itself.
• Swelling of the larynx.
• Swollen lymph glands in the throat, face or chest.
• Having a cold or flu-like symptoms; this ironically can also cause laryngitis.
• Suffering from a fever.

The symptoms of laryngitis can vary depending on the severity and also the causes but usually begin with a cold. The main symptoms of larynritis are;

1. Fever
2. Hoarseness
3. Dry, sore throat
4. Sensation of swelling in the area of the larynx
5. Weak or absent voice.
6. Difficulty swallowing
7. Runny nose
8. tiredness
9. Coughing

Treatments

Virus infection is the most common kind to produced laryngitis & treatment with antibiotics may not cure. Resting the voice may help to ebb the inflammation of the vocal cords .A humidifier and warm showers may abate the scratchy experience that comes with laryngitis.Using extra fluids such as tea or a honey lemon drink, and inhaling steam relieve symptoms and help healing. In symptoms associated with laryngitis a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen and aspirin mitigate the fever.

It will be better to take cough drops to reduce the inflammation of the vocal cords. A tea of gingerroot can use to mollify swelling of the vocal chords and relieve disorders. There are a variety of different treatments for laryngitis. Some of them are breathing in moist air, resting your voice, drink plenty of fluids, treat the underlying cause of laryngitis and suck on lozenges. You can breath in moist air by sitting in the bathroom with the shower running on hot or putting hot water in a bowl and breathing in the steam. Drinking plenty of fluids helps to prevent dehydration, treating alcoholism or excessive smoking will help rid of laryngitis and sucking on lozenges makes the throat wetter and takes away the dryness and soreness.

Genital Herpes,Symptoms and Treatments

2009 December 24
Posted by harryjackson9

Genital herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus. The areas of the body that are affected by the virus include, but are not limited to, the cervix, genitals, and the skin. This is a chronic condition. Some people who carry the virus don’t display the symptoms of the virus. The periods of remission associated with this virus increase over time. Also, the severity of the symptoms tends to see a decrease with time.

Natural supplements can be a huge help in curbing the amount and longevity of herpes outbreaks. Try taking lysine, zinc and vitamin C supplements daily. These supplements are known virus fighters, and many people have had great success in reducing outbreaks with these three immune boosters.Stress is another major trigger for outbreak severity and frequency, so try to eliminate as much stress as possible from your life, and you’ll be taking a large step toward controlling the genital herpes simplex virus. This can mean re-evaluating your lifestyle, home life, and work or career options, but you’ll find if you have the courage to make these changes, your dealings with herpes will become much easier.

There are a few options that may be presented to you. The first your doctor will likely recommend is anti-viral therapy. As herpes simplex is a virus, antibiotics are useless against it. This may seem daunting and scary, but this is why suppressive anti-viral therapy exists, and is generally the most effective herpes simplex treatment. While the virus may be in the body for life, it can be controlled and suppressed, and after determining an effective treatment, many people experience very few or even no symptoms or outbreaks afterwards. Those who still experience outbreaks will find their symptoms drastically reduced, healing time sped up significantly, and the time between outbreaks becoming longer and longer as they take the anti-virals.

If you do have herpes then there is some good news. While the disease is incurable, it is treatable. There are several treatments available for genital herpes. Some of them help to prevent outbreaks and some of them can help alleviate the symptoms of an outbreak. Of course before you decide on your treatment plan you should discuss it with your doctor.Remember that no matter what treatment you decide to use, you should discuss it with a medical professional first. Your doctor will be able to tell you the best course of treatment for your personal needs.

Causes

Genital herpes is a common infection in the U.S. today. It is a sexually transmitted disease which is more common in women than in men. The causes of genital herpes is the herpes simplex viruses 1 and 2. Virus 1 is what usually forms on the mouth in the form of cold sores or fever blisters. Virus 2 is what is passed on to the genital areas.A person can have the virus and not know it, so passing it on to others goes unnoticed until the outbreak occurs. When an outbreak of herpes occurs, there is usually a blister that forms on or around the genital area and possibly the rectal area. When the blister ruptures, it becomes similar to an ulcer and can be very painful or uncomfortable.

The presence of HSV on the facade of the skin is enough to be transmitted to a partner. This virus is transmitted easily through the moist parts of the skin like the anus, genitals and the mouth. In a few cases, there are chances of getting infected even through other parts of the body like the skin or the eyes, which would be affected by ‘Herpes Simplex’.These symptoms generally tend to last for about twenty days. In case of recurrent infections the symptoms would be again ulceration and blisters on the cervix in case of women, red blisters which are painful and a burning or tingling feeling in the area surrounding the genitals before the appearance of the blister. These symptoms tend to last for about seven to ten days.

Treatments

The second stage of genital herpes is the active phase where small herpes bumps or sores will be present on the mucous membranes of the genital area. A larger single sore or blister is also possible. The outbreak and surrounding area can be extremely painful at this time. Excessive redness and swelling are common. It is best to keep the outbreak clean and dry and to wear loose clothing (and cotton underwear!). There are several remedies for relief including breaking open a wet black tea bag and applying the leaves to the exposed outbreak. A few drops of tea tree oil in olive oil can also help reduce pain and swelling.

The treatment of genital herpes can be quite confusing. There is a tremendous amount of information available both on the internet and in print, and it can be difficult to separate which treatments have promise from the completely ineffective. Currently the only FDA approved medications for the treatment of herpes are sold under the brand names: Zovirax, Famvir, and Valtrex.

Erectile Dysfunction,Causes and Treatments

Using testosterone therapy as a treatment can help your body regain some muscle mass it has lost with the levels decreasing. It can also help you to keep your strength, since lower levels can cause you to lose some of it. Your bone density can be improved with the therapy and you may be able to reduce the fat that develops around your stomach easier while using the therapy. It can also increase your energy levels and make you feel more animated than without it. Testosterone can also improve your mental clarity and help to keep your attention on the tasks at hand much easier without having your mind wander. This therapy can greatly help in decreasing the irritation and can make life seem better.

If you are looking to take erectile dysfunction pills you can take synthetic drugs such as Viagra or herbal pills and herbal pills are the better option for most men, as not only will they get you a harder erection, they will also increase libido and improve overall wellness which man made drugs don’t. Let’s take a look at the herbs the best natural pills contain…First lets look at the most common reasons for erectile dysfunction and then, look at the natural herbs that will cure the problems.Your sex drive and erection is based upon strong blood flow to and into the penis; you need to get an increased flow of blood to the sex organs quickly and any man with erectile dysfunction, will probably have sluggish blood flow around the body.

You also need lots of testosterone for sex drive and stamina, and as levels drop with age and many men need a top up. Finally, need to have a mind free of worry and stress because if you don’t, you simply won’t be able to focus on sex and will lack energy. There are two known causes that link smoking and erectile problems and its ill-affects together. The first has to do with a plaquing of the arteries (arteriosclerosis). Smoking is believed to damage artery lining which later forms plaques in response to this trauma. These plaques build up over time and inhibit blood flow, leading to poor circulation. Poor circulation affects penile erections, as the penis utilizes hemodynamics (mechanism of blood flow) in order to create an erection.

If you want to cure erectile dysfunction, you can do it with man made drugs - but you can also do it with some time tested herbs and the herbs we will look in this article, will do something man made drugs can’t and that’s -increase sex drive, for the all round sexual experience and in addition, they improve overall levels of wellness at the same time. The reason man made drugs leave many men disappointed is men think that they boost sexual desire but they don’t. Most men are therefore left disappointed, that they don’t feel a rush of excitement which makes them hard without manual stimulation. The good news is the right herbs can get you a hard erection and boost sexual desire for the all round sexual experience.

Causes

Testosterone is the principle male hormone. It is  this hormone which controls sexual function in men. It is secreted in the testes and not only controls sex drive or libido but also controls a whole lot of other vital body function. It is this hormone that is behind your hard muscles, bone strength etc., There is evidence to suggest that a decline in testosterone  leads to a lot of changes in your body which include:

* loss of lean muscle
* weight gain
* reduced sex drive or libido and ED
* irritability and mood swings
* lack of energy
* decline in bone density etc.,

*  Cardiovascular Diseases- Hardening of the arteries can affect the artery that supplies blood to the penis. As a result it does not dilate properly and is not able to deliver all the blood that is necessary to achieve an erection. Moreover, when nerves that control blood flow the penis are damaged, impotence can occur. This hardening of arteries is called atherosclerosis and is aggravated by hypertension, high blood cholesterol levels, smoking and diabetes mellitus.
* Diabetes- It is interesting to note that out of every four impotent men one is diabetic. Diabetes can cause nerve deterioration and can affect blood flow tot he penis.
* Diseases of the Nervous System- Some nervous disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and spinal cord injuries can lead to impotence. Damage to the spinal cord and nerves in the pelvis can also lead to impotence. Nerve damage can also result from trauma or surgical procedures.
* Aging- Age also affects your ability to achieve hard and firm erections. Testosterone production begins declining with age and this can lead to low libido which often triggers erectile dysfunction. Moreover, with age nitric oxide secretions also declines and this can also lead to impotence.

Treatments

There can be other causes as well such a decline in testosterone levels. Testosterone is the principle male hormone and its production peaks during puberty and adolescence. However, Testosterone production and secretion begins declining after the age of 30 which results in a whole lot of changes in your body. One such change is a decline in your libido or sexual appetite which often triggers erectile dysfunction. Moreover, your lifestyle also counts as a big factor in your sexual health. Poor nutrition, lack of physical activity, excessive smoking, drinking alcohol, use of recreational drugs inevitably result in erectile problems. However, natural or herbal pills that are comprised of herbs that have been used as libido enhancers for centuries help overcome erectile dysfunction while ensuring hard and firm erections.

Another major factor that can lead to erectile dysfunction is a dip in your testosterone levels. Testosterone is the hormone that controls sex drive and sexual function in men but it begins depleting with age. Men begin losing testosterone at about 10% a decade after the age of 30 and this not only leads to low libido but also triggers erectile dysfunction.

Pericarditis and its Treatments

2009 December 22

Pericarditis is a swelling and irritation of the pericardium, which is a thin sac-like membrane surrounding the heart. Pericarditis may be acute or chronic. Common symptoms of this condition include a sharp stabbing chest pain which intensifies on lying down; breathlessness while reclining; low grade fever; an overall sense of weakness, fatigue or feeling sick; dry cough; and abdominal or leg swelling. In the majority of patients with pericarditis, there is no known cause for this condition. A few patients may develop this disease after a viral infection, a major heart attack or heart surgery. Trauma, inflammatory disorders like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, and other diseases like kidney failure, tuberculosis, cancer and AIDS can also cause this condition.

Pericarditis occurs in up to 15% of patients who have acute myocardial infarctions (heart attacks). There is also a late form of post-heart-attack pericarditis, called Dressler’s syndrome, that occurs weeks to months after the heart attack. Chronic pericarditis occurs when the pericardial inflammation does not resolve within a few weeks. Constrictive pericarditis occurs when a chronically inflamed pericardial sac sticks to the heart muscle, squeezing it constricting it. A CT or MRI scan can also help to diagnose chronic or constrictive pericarditis, by showing the thickening of the pericardial lining associated with these conditions. Potential sources of cardiac perforation include central line placement, pacemaker insertion, cardiac catheterization, sternal bone marrow biopsies, and pericardiocentesis.

Pericarditis is a disorder caused by inflammation of the pericardium, which is the sac-like covering of the heart. The pericardium has an inner and outer layer with a small amount of lubricating fluid between them. Pericarditis frequently causes a characteristic chest pain that usually compels one to seek medical attention. Pericarditis may be acute or chronic. The sharp chest pain associated with acute pericarditis occurs when the pericardium rubs against the heart’s outer layer. It is usually a complication of viral infections, most commonly echovirus or coxsackie viruses. Less frequently, it can be caused by influenza or HIV infection.

The most common symptom of pericarditis is sharp, stabbing chest pain behind the breastbone or in the left side of your chest. Pericarditis occurs in up to 15% of patients who have acute myocardial infarctions. Pericarditis most often affects men aged 20-50, usually following respiratory infections. It can also occur in children, where it is most commonly caused by adenovirus or coxsackie virus. Patients who have suffered a heart attack (myocardial infarction) may develop pericarditis over subsequent days or weeks. Kidney failure caused by the buildup of certain toxins in the body also can lead to pericarditis.

There are several “eye-catchers” that a personal trainer should look for as you consider working with a client. Several of these would warrant examination and then permission from a doctor before the fitness assessment or training. All would require further conversation as a part of the trainer/client relationship.

After securing the medical history form, look for the following signs and/or symptoms that are suggestive of coronary artery disease or heart disease. These absolute contraindications to exercise testing are conditions that must be stabilized or adequately treated before testing. If any of these are evidenced, the client should be referred to appropriate medical personnel prior to assessment or training by you as a personal trainer.

Treatments

Treatment of histoplasmosis depends on the complexity of the disease. Anti fungal treatments are taken to cure the complex cases of acute histoplasmosis and all cases of chronic and disseminated disorders. Mild disease generally cure without treatment & may require only symptomatic measures.

Efficacious treatments are available in the market for even the most complex forms of histoplasmosis. Amphotericin B or itraconazole may be used to treat the disease histoplasmosis. Patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) may need treatment with an anti fungal medication for there long life to prevent further attacks of histoplasmosis.

Diet for EBV is based around a high protein diet which is low in sugar, alcohol, coffee and processed foods. Anti-inflammatory foods like fish oils, garlic, ginger and turmeric are useful in relieving symptoms. Antioxidant foods including green leafy vegetables, fresh juices, green tea, berries and lemons are a useful addition to a healthy, immune-boosting diet.

In chronic Epstein Barr Syndrome, treatment needs to focus on cleansing the virus from the liver and lymphatic system. This approach requires the combination of a liver tonic or cleanser with a pure diet and plenty of fluids to flush the virus and toxins away from the body. People who have had the virus for months or years also need to work on their adrenal glands. In chronic Epstein Barr Syndrome the adrenals are often exhausted and need to be nurtured and revitalized through correct nutrition, stress management, graded exercise and plenty of rest.

Natural treatments for Epstein Barr Syndrome include high dose nutrients like vitamin C, zinc, selenium, CoQ10, magnesium and the B complex. Herbs like echinacea, oregano, olive leaf extract and astragalus are commonly used to support the immune and lymphatic system. If the liver and spleen are affected then the herbs red root and milk thistle are traditionally used.

Muscle Pain and its Treatments

A number of factors can lead to aching muscles. They can be divided into the following 3 categories:- Muscle aches caused by overuse- Muscle aches caused by illness, disease, or disorders- Muscle aches caused by medications.

Muscle aches caused by overuse.Muscle aches are most commonly caused by overexertion. Maybe you simply pushed yourself too hard at the gym, moved some furniture around, or helped a friend move into a new house.

Muscle aches caused by medications. It is also possible that your muscle aches might be a side effect of some medications. If the aches commence shortly after beginning, or altering a medication regimen, you must call your doctor to ask if it might be a side effect of your medication.

Stress is the result of forces from the outside world affecting an individual. A stress can be a mental or emotional disrupt that occurs in response to adverse external influences and is capable of affecting the physical health of a person.

Besides the food in take every day to control these problems, there are several medicines and other medicated bases that would help you defend against these infections and make you stay healthy and safe.

Back & Muscle Pain – Pain in the lower back or low back pain is a common concern. Low back pain is not a specific disease, but is a symptom that may occur from a variety of different processes.

Back pain is referred as acute if it stays for less than a month and chronic if it lasts for a longer period of time. Back pain is caused by arthritis, muscle tension or spasm, nerve pain or tissue inflammation.

Causes

The scientific name for muscle pain after exercise is Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) which typically occurs 12-48 hours after a new workout routine is adopted, after a substantial increase in the duration of exercise, or after abrupt change in athletic activities.

If you experience muscle pain even when there is no change in your exercises or workout routine you may actually have a more serious muscle or joint condition or even a serious injury. Muscle pain should nearly always disappear within a few weeks of adopting a new workout program or exercise.

Muscle pain occurs because of little tears that form in the muscle during intense exercise. These little tears gradually heal causing the size and strength of your muscles to increase. The tearing and healing process is part of an adaption process that leads to greater strength and endurance.

What are the Characteristics of Trigger Points? Active Trigger Points actively refer pain along nerve pathways locally or to adjacent locations. Latent trigger points only refer pain when some type of pressure or force is placed upon the trigger point itself or to the soft tissue structure where the latent trigger point is located.

Key Trigger Points have pain referral patterns that activate or create a Latent trigger point along a nerve pathway. Key trigger points also activate “Satellite Trigger Points” in other soft tissue structures. Both must be treated in order to alleviate both sources of pain.
Primary trigger points may activate Secondary trigger points in other structures, and again, both must be treated in order to alleviate both sources of pain.

When an individual is not responsive to exercises to strengthen a rotator cuff, surgery may be the only option. Bursitis and tendinitis of the rotator cuff usually responds quite well to non surgical treatments including medication, rest and exercises to strengthen the rotator cuff.

Any inflammation to these muscles can cause pain as the inflamed tendon can catch or impinge on bone. A classic example of this is the supraspinatus muscle which runs under the collar bone and the acromion of the shoulder blade. When this muscle become inflamed it can catch on the channel of bone and start to fray.

So you must let the muscles rest. This means avoiding any of the movements that are painful. If your job includes a lot of overhead movement you may need to modify how you work. If you spend the day sitting at a desk.

you might need to rearrange your desk to avoid reaching or stretching movements with the damaged arm. It might even be necessary to take a few days off to rest the arm properly.

Remedies of Sterility

Sterility is the inability to conceive children and applies equally to men who are unable to impregnate a woman in order to enable to conceive. But the term is applied frequently in case of women only. It is also known as infertility. The preliminary step in treating sterility is to determine whether the problem lies with the male or the female partner.

Sterility is of two basic types. One is known as primary sterility and the other is secondary sterility. In primary sterility the couple has never conceived a child. The secondary sterility occurs when the couple has conceived a child, but has had a miscarriage. Primary sterility can be due to the male or the female partner; but secondary sterility is only due to problems with the woman’s reproductive system. Here in this article, you will find information about sterility and its responsible factors.

In male, systematic diseases like diabetes and obesity; endocrine disorders like pituitary infantilism, hypothyroidism, adrenal hyperplasia are important causes. Similarly factors like heavy smoking, alcoholism, nervous tension about sex, and psychological problems can also be responsible. Genital factors like defective spermatogenesis, testicular atrophy following mumps; infections like gonococcal and tubercular in the genital tract, and aging above 45 can cause this disorder. The normal semen shows sperm count 60 to 120 million per ml with motility 80 to 90 percent.
Azospermia denotes absense of sperms. Oligospermia is mild when the count is 80 million, moderate 50 million and severe when less than 5 million per ml.

In Female, systematic diseases sufficient to suppress the ovulation and age above 40 are very common causes. Endocrine factors like frohlich’s syndrome, psychological factors like fear, and nervousness can also cause this problem. Genital factors like narrow vaginal introitus, vaginal atresia, high vaginal acidity, cervical, uterine, tubal, and ovarian disorders can cause sterility in females. It’s true that some couples also think that they’re facing sterility when in reality they just have less of a chance of getting pregnant than other couples.

Pregnancy is not a guarantee even when a healthy man and woman engage in sexual activity; it’s a game of chance no matter what. In order to increase the odds of a pregnancy, many couples are advised to simply increase their sexual activity! As a matter of fact, a couple is not technically considered infertile unless they are having sexual relations at least twice per week for an entire year and still have not gotten pregnant. A month or two without a pregnancy, or sexual activity that is more infrequent than that does not add up to sterility for any couple.

A registration process of all dental practices including both NHS and private is due to commence soon which will provisionally place strong emphasis on quality management and clinical governance. The CQC (Care Quality Commission) will oversee the process and will have regulatory responsibility to ensure the requirements and specifications of the registration and they are expected to roll it out over a two year period.

Patient safety is of the utmost importance and therefore cross-contamination and infection control are prominent issues in the dental surgery. With that in mind, it’s not surprising that where possible, the use of sterile single use instruments is on the increase. The individually packaged, pre-sterilised instruments eliminate all risk of improper decontamination and sterilisation and therefore remove all doubt of potential cross contamination.

There are many herbs that also seem to address sterility in both men and women by balancing hormone levels and also by calming both individuals. These herbal remedies include black cohosh, Siberian ginseng, and chaste berry. The ginseng seems to be the most effective as it supports healthy blood flow to all parts of the body including the reproductive systems. Chaste berry is valued for its antioxidant properties so that healthy cells are protected and repaired. Zinc is also found in very high and active concentrations throughout the male reproductive system in healthy males.

Certain women nurture innate hatred towards male sex, due to which factor they fail to reach orgasm, thereby impeding the process of onset of pregnancy. Inbuilt inhibitions, fear psychosis, like enormous length of male organ, imagined pain during coitus, resulting in spasms, fits or pains or even avoidance of coitus, are the other factors that could render a woman sterile. The husband should try to set at rest all the fears, inhibitions and imagined problems by sustained persuasion, love, affection, sympathy and reassurance. He should not behave like a stud, but a sympathetic, considerate and caring husband. Rest of the problems can be taken care of by the doctor. If sterility is not a serious concern, then a laboratory washing machine may not be used at all and simple manual washing techniques may be sufficient. This method may be as straightforward as using hot soapy water and a thorough rinsing, much as one would when washing dishes in the home. Where the use of laboratory glass washers is not yet a necessity, but sterility is a more important issue or the soil created on the glassware and instruments in the lab is particularly heavy, then an acid or base wash may be added to the soap and water routine or replace it entirely.

Remedies of Rheumatism

2009 December 21
Posted by harryjackson9

Rheumatism has become a general term for medical problems that affect the heart, joints, kidney, bones, lung and skin. There is a huge list of herbal remedies that are recommended in battling Rheumatism but modern medicine understands that there is several different causes to the condition, and that each case requires different/individual treatment.Because Rheumatism is such a broad term is contains several disorders. The major disorders are: Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Rheumatic heart disease, shoulder/neck/back pain, and zolymyalgia rheumatica among others.

If you look at the above list you will notice that several of these disorders have little in common. The common characteristics that they all share is that they cause chronic pain that is difficult to treat. With the above in mind it is easy to see why Rheumatism is so common. This commonality as well as generality is also reflected by the immense amount of herbal medicines, and other ancient techniques that are available to treat Rheumatism. Primary treatment for Rheumatological diseases begins primarirly with paracetamol and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Often times the initial amounts of drugs prescribed to battle the disease aren’t sufficient, and need to be increased.

Other treatments include physical therapy. Exercises that help improve range of motion and flexibility will go a long ways towards reducing the chronic pain. You will also want to include cardiovascular exercises. This will help to improve your circulation and give you energy. While not everyone will be able to complete all of the exercises a physical therapist might have, you do need to try them. You may find that after a while, you will be able to complete them.Don’t overdo it when it comes to exercise however. You need to make sure you only go as far as you are comfortable. This is not to say that you won’t feel some discomfort, but you should stop when it hurts.

If you are overweight, an exercise program can help you tremendously. The extra weight will put a strain on your joints and muscles. Most people will feel the pain in their feet, hips, and back. If you can lose as little as ten percent of your total body weight, you will be amazed at how much better you will feel.Arthritis affects more than 40 million people and can range from the occasional twinge in a finger to incapacitating whole-body pain. We do not understand why some people seem immune from joint pain even into their 90’s, while others can be so badly crippled at half that age they can barely drag their bones out of bed in the morning.

We don’t have anything remotely resembling a cure for arthritis, though there are dozens of prescription and over the counter products that may temporarily relieve inflammation and ease pain. They all have the potential to cause side effects, however. It is estimated that 100,000 people are hospitalized each year because of adverse reactions to NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis, affecting the middle-aged. It is a degenerative joint disease and is characterized by pain, stiffness, and swelling in spinal joints, hips, knees, and joints of the hand, with progressive loss of function. The cartilage that lines the bones degenerates, becoming inflamed, rough, and hardened, and eventually wears away. Tendons, ligaments, and muscles that are holding the joint together become weaker, causing deformity, pain, and reduced movement.

However, pain is the predominant symptom with pain without apparent reason, aches, and stiffness of multiple muscles, joints, and tenderness in soft tissue. Additionally the pain will move from one part of the body to another. It is most common in the hands, neck, arms, shoulders, chest, legs, hips, and back. The fatigue results from the individual’s chronic pain coupled (disturbing sleep) It is common for the inflammatory condition to produces various enzymes that are known to cause fatigue.

Some additional symptoms can include diarrhea, tension headaches, difficulty swallowing, numbness or tingling of the extremities, and recurrent abdominal pain. It is well known that stress, anxiety, depression, and lack of sleep will increase symptoms. There is a difference between arthritis and rheumatism. Inflammatory pain from joint(s) is arthritis; and from tissues around the joints such as tendon, liagament, muscle or bone is rheumatism. These conditions have long been considered to be chronic, degenerative and incurable. Standard medical treatment consists of aspirin, corticosteroidsand other non-steroidal anti-flammatory drugs which alleviate pain. Unfortunately, long term use of these drugs cause side effects like risk of liver and kidney damage, and they exacerbate cartilage breakdown and inhibit the body’s natural repair mechanisms.

There are now several natural substances that may just change all these. While these natural substance sometimes takes lone to show results, but in the long run, they may be just as effective as conventional treatments without the side effects.Glucosamine & Chondroitin : Both glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate belong to a class of compounds called glycosaminoglycans. Glucosamine furnishes the basic building block of mucopolysaccharides which is the integral components of synovial fluid that form the framework of bones, cartilage, nails, hair and skin. Increased amounts of glucosamine stimulates the activity of specialised cells called chondrocytes. These cells then build the framework of bone cartilage with mucopolysaccharides.
